An early run, a late run and 14 shutout innings lifted the Princeton softball team to a pair of 1-0 wins over Brown Saturday in games played at Bordentown High School. Princeton got out of its share of jams in game two as well. Ashley LaGuardia threw the first inning and gave up a single and a walk to start before retiring the next three batters to get out of it, and Meredith Brown gave up two one-out singles in relief in the second inning before getting two outs in the infield to keep Brown off the board. With the middle of the order coming up in the bottom of the seventh, Princeton got to Brown starter Jessica Cherness just in time. Cherness was perfect through 4 2/3 innings before a Skye Jerpbak walk broke that up, and she carried a no-hitter into the seventh before Kylee Pierce dropped a single into shallow left. After a passed ball, Alyssa Schmidt's grounder then put Pierce on third, and Pierce streaked home with the win when Haley Hineman dropped down a bunt. |
| Alyssa Schmidt homered in the first inning of game one and took a fly ball to the fence in the first inning of game two while making an inning-ending catch in the top of the seventh in the nightcap with Brown threatening to break the deadlock. | ![]() |
| Alyssa Schmidt's home run in the first inning of game one was the only run, and Haley Hineman's bunt that brought home Kylee Pierce won the nightcap for the Tigers. |
