In Saturday's opener, Penn scored all its runs over the first three innings and Alexis Borden did the rest, limiting Princeton to three hits in a 4-0 Quaker win. Penn's Leah Allen homered to lead off the second inning and give Penn a 2-0 lead, and a couple of RBI groundouts cashed in a Lauren Li walk and a Jurie Joyner double to start the inning, giving Penn the 4-0 lead. Borden retired the first nine Tigers she faced before a Rachel Rendina single to start off the fourth broke that string, but the Tigers left runners on in each of the final four innings as the Tigers' try for a rally fell short. Princeton loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but two groundouts to the left side kept Princeton off the board. In the nightcap, Penn again scored early, with Allen doubling home a run in the first and Penn's Vanessa Weaver singling home a run in the third on the way to a 3-0 lead. Penn made it 5-0 in the fourth on a Li home run before Princeton spoiled the shutout in the sixth with a Haley Hineman driving home a run on a failed fielder's choice after singles by Emily Viggers and Marissa Reynolds. The Tigers had runners on in six of their seven turns at the plate, leaving eight runners on base in all and four in scoring position. |
| Rachel Rendina had three hits on the day and was the only Tiger with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 in the nightcap. |

• There's still a long way to go in the Ivy League race, but with six league games to go for Penn, Columbia and Cornell and eight to go for Princeton, here's how the race shapes up: Penn (9-5 Ivy) leads Princeton (6-6) by two games and is four in front of both Columbia and Cornell. Things got a little closer in the Ivy North, with Dartmouth (12-2) up two on Harvard (10-4) with Brown (5-9) seven back and Yale (2-10) nine back. |
| The same two teams will be back at it Sunday for a 2 p.m. twinbill at Penn Park. |
