Princeton Invitational Hits the Road Saturday and Sunday
April 07, 2015 | Men's Golf
Though Springdale Golf Club has played host to the Princeton Invitational almost annually since 1987, Mother Nature had other ideas this year, and the Tigers' annual home tournament will head a bit southwest this weekend.
The two-day tournament will be 36 holes with 18 each day, Saturday at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania and Sunday at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Tee times are set to begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
"The winter took a toll on our course, and rather than jeopardize the recovery of our already stressed greens, we felt it better to find an alternative side," Will Green, the J. Stuart Francis '74 Head Coach of Men's Golf, said. "We're incredibly grateful to Aronimink and Merion for stepping in and allowing us the opportunity to play this weekend. These are two of the very best courses in the country, both with a rich history of championship golf, and for them to permit us to host this collegiate competition is truly extraordinary. It promises to be an amazing experience for all the student-athletes competing."
Princeton will host five fellow Ivy League programs in Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn and Yale, plus Georgetown, Rider, Rutgers, Saint Joseph's, St. John's, Seton Hall and Temple. Harvard won the team and individual titles a year ago, with the Crimson finishing three shots in front of Yale and Akash Mirchandani winning medalist honors by a single stroke over teammate Robert Deng and and Dartmouth's Jeffrey Lang. All 12 teams in this year's field were part of the 2014 Princeton Invitational.
Tee times for the two days are below:
Saturday at Aronimink
11:30 a.m.-12:10 p.m.: Princeton, Temple, Georgetown, Yale
12:20 p.m.-1 p.m.: Brown, Saint Joseph's, individuals from Princeton, Yale and Temple

2 p.m.-2:20 p.m.: Rider, St. John's, individuals from Dartmouth and Brown
Sunday at Merion
11 a.m.-11:20 a.m.: 12th- & 13th-place teams, 6th- & 7th-place individuals
11:30 a.m.-12:10 p.m.: 10th- & 11th-place teams, top five individuals
12:20 p.m.-1 p.m.: 6th-, 7th- & 8th-place teams
1:10 p.m.-1:50 p.m.: 1st-, 2nd-, 3rd- & 4th-place teams
Aronimink hosted the 1962 PGA Championship and was a PGA Tour stop for the AT&T National in 2010 and 2011. Princeton last played an event there when the Tigers hosted Army and Georgia in 2011.
The Merion portion of the tournament will be held on the East Course, which has hosted five U.S. Opens, the last one just two years ago. Merion has a Princeton connection in its history, as Hugh Wilson 1902 is credited as the course architect.
The Princeton Invitational is the final tournament for the Tigers before the Ivy League Championship, which is scheduled for April 24-26 at Saucon Valley Golf Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
