Box Score & Play-by-Play

Rutgers scored five runs in the second inning on the way to a 6-2 win over Princeton Wednesday afternoon in Piscataway.

The big inning all happened with two outs, as a dropped fly ball opened the door for a rally that included five straight hits for five runs before Princeton recorded the second out. Rutgers' Alyssa Landrith kept Princeton hitless over the first three innings before an Emily Viggers single led off the fourth, but the Tigers couldn't spoil the shutout until the sixth inning. Three of Princeton's six hits came in that frame, with run-scoring singles by Kayla Bose and Alyssa Schmidt.


Alyssa Schmidt was 1 for 2 while coming into the game off the bench, driving in Princeton's second run with a sixth-inning base hit.

A two-out single by Rutgers' Jackie Bates in the second inning drove home a pair of runs and put the Scarlet Knights ahead 4-0.

• The Rutgers win kept Princeton from winning back-to-back games in the series for the first time since 2006.

• Alyssa Landrith, Rutgers' top pitcher on the season, started the game and held Princeton to one hit over four scoreless innings. Shayla Sweeney, who took the loss in last year's game at '95 Field, closed out the game for Rutgers.
