For the first time in Princeton University Department of Athletics history, finalists for the top senior male and female athletic awards have been named in advance, with a single winner of each award to be announced at the Gary Walters '67 Princeton Varsity Club Senior Award Banquet next week.
There are four nominees for the C. Otto von Kienbusch Award, Awarded annually to a Princeton senior woman of high scholastic rank who has demonstrated general proficiency in athletics and the qualities of a true sportswoman: Blake Dietrick of the women's basketball team, Lindsay Graff of the women's tennis team, Lauren Lazo of the women's soccer team and Erin McMunn of the women's lacrosse team.
BLAKE DIETRICK
Blake Dietrick wrapped up a stellar senior season by leading the Princeton University women's basketball team to an unblemished 30-0 regular season and a fifth Ivy League title in six years, as well as the highest national ranking in Ivy League women's basketball history (13).
Dietrick averaged career-highs in points (15.1), assists (4.9), and rebounds (4.5) per game en route to Associated Press and WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors. A seven-time Ivy Player of the Week, she was the conference's unanimous choice for Player of the Year. Setting a single-season program record for assists (157), her 483 points in 2014-15 are tied for the third highest total in school history.
A two-time first-team All-Ivy selection, Dietrick wrapped up a decorated career ranked third on the Princeton charts in three-pointers made (210) and three-point shooting percentage (.395). Sitting fourth in assists (346) and 11th in scoring (1,233), she poured in a team-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting in her final collegiate contest, a NCAA second-round loss to eventual Final Four participant Maryland.
She later represented the Tigers in the annual State Farm College three-point Shooting Championships at Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., and signed a training camp contract with the Women's National Basketball Association's (WNBA) Washington Mystics.
Dietrick is an English major from Wellesley, Mass.
LINDSAY GRAFF
Lindsay Graff finished her career 8 for 8 in earning All-Ivy League honors, including six total first-team recognitions. In the final three years of her career, Graff was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection in singles play, and her perfect 7-0 Ivy record at the top of the team's singles lineup earned her unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year honors in 2014. In all, Graff closed her career with 83 singles wins and 73 victories in doubles play, and she gained a berth in the NCAA doubles tournament as a sophomore in 2012.
After a 7-0 Ivy League season for the program, Graff helped the team return to the NCAA tournament in 2014 after a four-year absence, and with her at both No. 1 singles and doubles, the team defeated Arizona State to earn its first-ever NCAA tournament victory and then came within two third-set matches of upsetting the No. 2 team in the country, Alabama. This season, with Graff back on both the top singles and doubles courts, the team returned to the NCAA tournament, making back-to-back NCAA team tournament appearances for just the second time in program history.
Graff is a mechanical engineering major from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
LAUREN LAZO
Lauren Lazo helped Princeton to get to the 2012 NCAA tournament and scored a postseason goal, getting Princeton on the board against Marquette in the Round of 32. Lazo was a part of 34 victories with the program and 13 in Ivy League play, including the perfect 7-0-0 season that led the team to the NCAAs three years ago.
While Lazo finished her career tied for fifth all-time in goals scored, with 28, and fifth in points, with 82, she graduates tied for the program record for career assists, with 26. She is one of only two players in program history to get at least 26 points in each of two seasons, doing so as a sophomore and a senior, and her 10 assists in her final season is the second-most in program history. In all four of her seasons with the program, Lazo was recognized with All-Ivy League honors, finishing her career with her second first-team All-Ivy League honor and her second NSCAA all-region honor this past fall.
Lazo is a psychology major from Cave Creek, Ariz.
