PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton Varsity Club was pleased to present Jason Garrett '89 with the Class of 1967 PVC Citizen-Athlete Award on Thursday May 28th as part of the Gary Walters '67 Princeton Varsity Club Awards Banquet.
The award is presented by the Class of 1967 for selfless and noble contributions to sport and society. A standout quarterback for the Tigers, Garrett ranks third all-time on the program's charts in passing yardage (4,274) and owns the school's single-season record for completion percentage (66.5). The 1988 Asa S. Bushnell Cup winner as the Ivy League Player of the Year, Garrett signed as a free agent with the National Football League's New Orleans Saints in 1989.
A member of three Super Bowl winning teams in the 1990s during his seven seasons as a Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Garrett entered coaching at the conclusion of his playing career, serving as the Miami Dolphins' quarterbacks coach under four-time collegiate national championship coach, Nick Saban.
Named the Dallas Cowboys' offensive coordinator in January of 2007, he was elevated to the team's interim head coach at the midway point of the 2010 season. On January 5, 2011 he was named the organization's eighth head coach, a position he currently still holds.
Off the field, Garrett and his wife Brill founded their charitable foundation, Jason Garrett Starfish Charities, in 1997 with the goal of enriching the lives of young people. Garrett and the foundation hold an annual one-day football camp and leadership forum for high school athletes at Princeton in conjunction with Play It Smart, a program administered by the National Football Foundation.
