Hoy '13, Lazo '15 Set to Meet as NWSL Opponents
July 14, 2015 | Women's Soccer
The pair were teammates for two years and led the Princeton women's soccer program to the NCAA Round of 32 in 2012, and now they'll meet again as opponents in the National Women's Soccer League.
Jen Hoy's Chicago Red Stars and Lauren Lazo's Boston Breakers will play a home-and-home series July 18 at Chicago and July 22 at Boston as the 2015 NWSL season reaches its midpoint. Of the two, only Hoy played in the teams' May 9 meeting, a 3-0 Chicago win that saw Hoy start and play 87 minutes.
Hoy, an NSCAA second-team All-America and the Ivy League Player of the Year as a senior, has started all nine games in which she has played for the Red Stars this season, putting in three goals and adding three assists. Hoy's Princeton career included 36 goals and 84 points, each fourth-best in program history. Her Chicago team leads the NWSL, which will continue its regular season into early September.
Lazo has played in six games for Boston, starting five and remains aiming for her first professional point. At Princeton, Lazo was a three-time All-Ivy League honoree, including first-team honors as a sophomore and a senior. Her 28 career goals and 82 points rank her fifth in Princeton history.
