Men's Tennis Opens Play at Penn Invitational

The fall campaign got underway Friday for the Princeton men's tennis team at the Penn Invitational, with Princeton's players facing those from St. John's and host Penn in the morning session and players from Old Dominion in the afternoon.
"It was good to get back into action to kick off the fall season and gauge our level after the summer," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "Many of our guys put in a lot of hard work and it was nice to see some of that today. We have areas to address, but it's early and we'll continue working on those in the next two days."
In the morning session, Princeton's players took three of the four doubles matches and five of the eight singles matches, including a straight-set win from freshman Jimmy Wasserman in which the rookie didn't give up a single game.
In the afternoon session, Old Dominion's players won three of the four doubles matches before Princeton's came back to take four of the seven singles matches. Mohamed El Tonbari and Jonathan Carcione won both of their singles matches on the day.
Princeton will return to Penn Saturday for a 9 a.m. session against players from Penn State before a 2 p.m. session against players from William and Mary.
