Men's Golf Wins Navy Fall Classic to Open Fall Season
September 14, 2015 | Men's Golf
A team score of 4-under par was good enough to lead the Navy Fall Classic after Sunday's first round, and another 4-under Monday was good enough to win it.
By seven shots, Princeton cleared Georgetown and the rest of the field at the Naval Academy Golf Course to win its first tournament since the Ivy League Championship in 2013. The Tigers and the Hoyas were the only teams under par, with Seton Hall eight shots back of Georgetown at +7.
Navy's Griffin Peters carded a tournament-low 63 Monday to surge into the lead and win the event by five shots over Sunday's co-leader John Clare of Le Moyne. Sophomore Marc Hedrick led Princeton at -4, five shots back of winner Peters. Princeton placed three golfers in the top 10, with Quinn Prchal a shot back of Hedrick at -3 in a fifth-place tie and Alex Dombrowski at -1 in a tie for eighth.
As it did at last year's Ivy League Championship tournament, Princeton used an all non-senior lineup, with juniors Dombrowski and Prchal and sophomores Hedrick, Eric Mtichell and Michael Davis.
The Tigers will play again this weekend at the Cornell Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
