Michelle Miller Named Princeton's NJAIAW Woman Of The Year
January 26, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Michelle Miller's contributions to Princeton University have extended well beyond the more than 1,000 points she's scored in basketball.
Miller is actually the embodiement of the Princeton "student-athlete-citizen," a model that values educational and athletic achievement with contributions to the larger University community and beyond.
With her overwhelming success in all of these areas, Miller has been selected as Princeton's NJAIAW Woman of the Year.
Each college in New Jersey annually selects its own Woman of the Year, and all of the honorees are recognized at a luncheon prior to a women's basketball game at Seton Hall. This year's event will be held Sunday, Feb. 7, and Miller will be unable to attend, as Princeton will be playing at Harvard that afternoon.
"To be named Princeton's Woman of the Year is an honor we celebrate together, as the student-athlete and coaching staff population at Princeton is a true community," says Princeton head coach Courtney Banghart. "Michelle has exemplified the true scholar-athlete performing at the highest level in the classroom and on the court. She has also utilized her summer terms for a variety of opportunities including research and community service. We celebrate her together!"
Miller is Princeton's leading scorer at 13.4 points per game, and she is shooting 41% from three-point range and 84.2% from the foul line. Miller became Princeton's 23rd 1,000-point scorer earlier this season, and she is currently 17th all-time at Princeton with 1,117 points.
She has also helped Princeton to two Ivy League titles and the program's first NCAA tournament win in her first three years.
In addition, she was a Rhodes Scholar finalist this year and last year was a winner of the Shapiro Prize for Academic Excellence, one of the most prestitigious undergraduate honors at Princeton.Miller is a pre-med student majoring in chemistry.
Princeton has not played since Jan. 9 due to first semester exams. The Tigers return to the court this weekend, hosting Brown Friday and Yale Saturday.
