Princeton Baseball In The Pros: Blue Jays Up Early In ALDS vs. Rangers

PRINCETON, N.J. – After a wonderful baseball season that saw six former Tigers reach the Major Leagues and another one win a Triple-A National Championship, Princeton has one player in the MLB postseason.
Danny Barnes continues into the postseason as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. While not on the active roster, Barnes remains on the 40-man roster and is an option should the Blue Jays make roster adjustments. He appeared in 12 games for Toronto, but boasted a .73 ERA in 41 outings through two levels of the minor leagues this year. Barnes, Chris Young '02 (Kansas City Royals), Matt Bowman (St. Louis Cardinals), David Hale '11 (Colorado Rockies), Ross Ohlendorf '05 (Cincinnati Reds), and Will Venable (Los Angeles Dodgers) were the six former Princeton players to play in the majors in 2016.
After a three-run walk-off home run by Edwin Encarnacion in the American League wildcard game against the Baltimore Orioles, Toronto's offensive firepower continued in game one of the American League Divisional Series vs. the Texas Rangers yesterday. A five-run third inning put the Blue Jays in the driver's seat before a three-run blast from Jose Bautista put the stamp on a 10-1 victory. Game two of the best-of-five series continues today at 1 p.m.
