PRINCETON, N.J. (11/15/16) - Princeton gets back on the road this weekend when it travels to the alma mater of head coach Ron Fogarty, Colgate on Friday night for the first meeting at Class of 1965 Arena. The Tigers will face off with Cornell the following evening at Lynah Rink. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton earned its first league point last weekend in a 2-2 draw with Dartmouth and are now 0-3-1 in the ECAC and 0-4-1 overall. The Tigers had a 2-1 lead over No. 10 Harvard in the second period before falling 5-2 on Friday night. The team begins the season as road warriors with seven of the first nine games away from Hobey Baker Rink. That hasn't hindered the Tigers penalty-killing unit though, as it ranks first int he nation. Princeton has killed off 18 of 19 penalties for 94.7 percent. Sophomore Alex Riche leads the team in scoring with four points on two goals and two assists. Junior Eric Robinson has scored three goals, all coming this past weekend. Sophomores Ryan Kuffner and Max Veronneau along with freshman Jeremy Germain have three points apiece as well. Senior Colton Phinney has an .885 save percentage and a 3.58 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate is 2-5-4 overall and 1-2-1 in the ECAC after splitting with Yale and Brown on the road last weekend. The Raiders are 1-1-3 in their brand new rink. Colgate's penalty kill ranks 15th at 87 percent (67/77), while the power play is 28th at 17.6 percent (13/74). The Raiders are scoring 2.36 goals per game while allowing 3.09 gpg. Sophomore Adam Dauda leads the team in scoring with three goals and five points but has played in just nine games. Two freshmen follow with Bobby McMann scoring twice and adding five assists, while John Snodgrass has a team-high six assists in eight game. Defenders Brett Corkey and Jake Kulevich have five points each. Senior Charlie Finn has a .911 save percentage and a .267 GAA playing in 540 minutes. Backups Bruce Racine and Colton Point (DAL) have each played over 60 minutes each.
THE PRINCETON/COLGATE SERIES
Colgate owns a 54-46-6 lead in the all-time series. Head coach Ron Fogarty and assistant coach Brad Dexter, former teammates at Colgate, are looking to get their first win over their alma mater as the Raiders have won the last six meetings. The Tigers last win was on Feb. 8, 2013 - the third of three straight wins.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
This weekend marks the home opener for Cornell, as the Big Red have played their first four games of the season on the road. Cornell is 2-2-1 overall with one-goal losses to Merrimack and Harvard, a tie with Dartmouth and wins over Brown and Yale last weekend. Cornell is averaging 3.20 goals per game and limiting teams to 2.60 gpg. The power play is 4 for 30 (13.3%) - 44th nationally and the penalty kill is 26 of 30 (86.7) - 16th nationally. Sophomore Mitch Vanderlaan has scored more than a third of his teams goals, five of 16. Junior Trevor Yales and sophomore Anthony Angello (PIT) each have five points on two goals and three assists. Freshman defender Yanni Kaldis has a team-high four assists. Senior Mitch Gilliam has played the majority of minutes in net and sports a .908 save percentage and a 2.84 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/CORNELL SERIES
Cornell holds a 86-54-8 edge in the series and has won the last three meetings. Last year, both games were decided by just one goal. The Tigers took a 2-1 game in the home opener of the 2014-15 season over Cornell - which marked Ron Fogarty's first win at the helm of the Princeton program.
