Five Notes For The Tigers' Home Contest Vs. Dayton Saturday
November 16, 2016 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers will look to get their first victory of the season as the Dayton Flyers head to Jadwin Gymnasium on Saturday (12 p.m.). These are five things to seek out during the contest on Saturday.
1.    Bella Alarie – It took about 10 seconds into her first collegiate contest for the freshman to make her presence know. Alarie scored the Tigers' first basket vs. Rider and finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting along with seven rebounds. She followed that performance with an eight-point, five-rebound outing on Sunday at George Washington and helped the Tigers hold Atlantic-10 (A-10) Preseason First Team All-Conference Ciara Washington to just six points and four rebounds.
2.    Three-Point Threats – Alarie along with sophomore Jordan Muhammad have combined for eight three-pointers. Muhammad sank four during the team's loss to George Washington while Alarie knocked down three against Rider. A year removed from graduating two of the best long-distance shooters in program history, Michelle Miller '16 and Annie Tarakchian '16, look for Muhammad and Alarie to provide the Tigers with some buckets from beyond the arc.
3.    You Get A Rebound, You Get A Rebound, Everyone Gets A Rebound – The Tigers have five players that are averaging at least four rebounds per game through their first two contests. Alarie's 12 total rebounds pace the team, but seniors Taylor Brown, Vanessa Smith and junior Leslie Robinson have all grabbed at least 10 each. Princeton has placed in the top-10 nationally in rebounding margin each of the past five seasons.
4.    Jenna Burdette – The Tigers will have to deal with another A-10 Preseason First Team All-Conference member in Jenna Burdette. The Flyer averaged 11.5 points, 4.8 assists per game last season and ranked first in the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage (.404). Burdette scored 10 points, dished out two assists in the Flyers' opening night 63-60 loss to Quinnipiac on Sunday. In the meeting vs. Princeton last season, the junior had a team-high 22 points on 8-of-12 from the floor.
5.    Welcome Back – After playing in just seven games last season because of an injury, Dayton senior Kelley Austria returned with a 10-point, seven-rebound performance vs. Quinnipiac. She received second team all-conference and first-team defensive team accolades in the preseason. During her last full season (2014-15), Austria averaged 9.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 34 games.
