Ivy Champ Men's Swimming & Diving Team Opens Ivy Season At Cornell
November 18, 2016 | Men's Swimming and Diving
The last time the Princeton men's swimming and diving team faced Ivy League competition, it was pulling off a dramatic final session comeback to win the 2016 Ivy League title. This weekend isn't likely to offer the same drama, especially without the championship stakes, but it will give Princeton its first dual meet look at a team that will try to bring home that same title in a few months.
The Tigers, coming off an impressive performance at the season-opening Big Al Open last weekend, will open 2016-17 Ivy League season this weekend with a tri-meet in Ithaca, N.Y. Teague Pool will serve as the host as Princeton takes on both Cornell and Penn; the meet will take place over two sessions, and it begins Friday at 6 pm with the diving events. The swimming portion will occur at 2 pm Saturday, and the women's meet will take the same format at 5 pm Friday and 11 am Saturday.
The standout performer for the Tigers last weekend was Cole Buese (pictured); the sophomore claimed Big Al wins in the 200 free, 200 fly, and 500 free, while freshman Derek Cox added wins in the 100 breast and 100 fly. Sophomore Murphy McQuet added a win in the mile, while 2016 All-America honoree Julian Mackrel won the 100 free in 45.56.
Senior Nathan Makarewicz gave new Princeton diving coach Drew Livingston his first two victories of the year as well.
