Princeton Sweeps Cornell, Penn, To Complete Impressive Opening Ivy Weekend

Princeton opened its Ivy League season in impressive fashion over the weekend. The Tigers swept a tri-meet over both Penn and Cornell inside Teagle Pool in Ithaca.
The women got the meet off to a strong start Friday on the diving boards, where Yasmeen Almog picked up a win on the 1-meter board with 261.65 points.
Gianna Garcia, Olivia Chan, Isabel Reis and Maddy Veith made sure Princeton started Saturday morning just as well; the quartet won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.79, less than .2 of a second ahead of Penn.
Garcia earned Princeton's first individual swimming win when she took the 100 back in 55.86, while Joanna Curry followed with a 200 fly win in 2:02.36. Veith, who finished second in the 50 free, won the 100 free in 51.77, while freshman Christie Chong took the 200 back in 2:00.23.
Shaelyn Choi kept the winning ways going for the Tiger freshman class, as she won the 200 breast in 2:20.92, just .04 ahead of Penn's Sydney Tan, while sophomore Monica McGrath kept her strong start going with a 500 free win in 4:58.72.
Garcia and Chong both doubled in their first Ivy League dual competitions; Garcia won the 100 fly in 55.88, while Chong took the 200 IM in 2:05.15.
Reis, Veith, Garcia and Claire McIlmail closed the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:26.94.
Princeton will be off next weekend, but it will return the first weekend in December to compete in the Brown Invitational.
