Promising Wrestling Season Opens With Harner At NWCA Classic, Tigers At VT's Southeast Open

The Princeton wrestling team comes into the 2016-17 season with both an All-American and a nationally ranked recruiting class, and both will be on display during this upcoming opening weekend for the Tigers.
Senior Brett Harner, who became Princeton's first All-American in 13 years during a thrilling run at the 2016 NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden, will become the sixth Tiger in program history to compete in the main portion of the NWCA All-Star Classic Saturday night in Cleveland. The 197-pound showdown will feature one of the most anticipated matches of the evening, especially in terms of rankings; Harner, ranked fourth in the preseason by InterMat, will take on Minnesota All-American Brett Pfarr, the second-ranked wrestler in the InterMat poll.
While Harner competes Saturday night, the majority of the Tigers will be in competition at the Southeast Open Sunday, which is being hosted by Virginia Tech. Returning NCAA qualifiers Jordan Laster, Jon Schleifer, and Ray O'Donnell lead a strong Princeton squad that posted its highest place in both the Ivy League and the EIWA Championships in more than two decades last year, but there are also a handful of exciting newcomers who will make their Orange and Black debut this Sunday.
The top name in that category is Matt Kolodzik, who debuted at No. 11 in the InterMat rankings at 141. Kolodzik won University Nationals in 2016 and was the nation's top-ranked recruit at his weight class after winning three National Prep championships. Ty Agaisse is a former New Jersey state champion and a nationally ranked recruit who will debut at 125, while Kevin Parker, Christian Araneo, and others will make their Tiger debuts this weekend.
