PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers broke three school records as they raced out to a 107-44 victory over the Wagner Seahawks on Wednesday evening at Jadwin Gymnasium.
Â
The Tigers broke the program record for points in a game, breaking the mark set against Portland State (104) on December 19th, 2014. Princeton also broke the single-game record for points in a quarter (34) and in a half with 60 during the first 20 minutes of game action tonight. Head coach Courtney Banghart's squad was the 27th team this season to score over 100 points at the Division-I level.
Â
Five different Tigers scored in double-figures highlighted by freshman Bella Alarie's 20 points. It's the first time Princeton had five players in double-figures since a 77-48 victory at Columbia last February (Feb. 26).
Â
The freshman finished one board shy of a double-double, adding four assists, three blocks and a steal. Sophomore Jordan Muhammad had a banner day, setting new benchmarks in points (13), assists (five) and steals (four). Senior Jackie Reyneke matched her personal best with eight points while swatting a career-high two shots. Taylor Brown (two blocks), Sydney Jordan (five assists), Jordan Stallworth (nine points), Gabrielle Rush (four steals) all set new career-highs while Claudia Reid posted her first collegiate points in the win.
Â
Princeton opened up with the first nine points of the contest, but Wagner kept up, going on its' own 9-0 spurt, tying the game with 5:17 left in the first stanza. The Tigers allowed just four points over the last five minutes, racing out with a 25-4 explosion to take a 34-13 advantage after the 10 minutes. Princeton's defense shined in the second quarter, holding Wagner to two baskets and five points as it led comfortably at the half and the rest of the contest.
Â
The home squad's 63-point victory is the second largest during Banghart's tenure. Princeton shot 56.4 percent from the floor (44-of-78). The last time the women's basketball team shot over 55 percent in a game was a 94-57 win at Cornell last February (Feb. 27). The Tigers' 44 field goals were three shy of tying the single-game record. Princeton wraps up the year 2016 with a 11-3 record at Jadwin. It will travel to Georgia Tech next Thursday (Dec. 29) with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
