Princeton Starts Season with Comeback Win over Cal Baptist, 12-10

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's water polo team scored the final three goals in a come-from-behind 12-10 victory over the Cal Baptist Lancers at DeNunzio Pool on Friday afternoon in the opening match of the Princeton Invitational.
Sophomore Haley Wan led the Tigers with three goals. Senior Pippa Temple and freshman Eliza Britt added two goals each while sophomore Helena van Brande made eight saves in the victory.
Trailing 3-2, Princeton rattled off four of the next five goals to take a 6-4 lead with three minutes remaining in the second quarter. Cal Baptist did not go away, registering the final two goals of the half to tie the match at 6-all into the intermission.
The third quarter was evenly played with three lead changes and three ties as the two teams were squared at 9-all heading into the final stanza.
At the 5:46 mark of the fourth quarter, the Lancers took a 10-9 advantage, but freshman Lindsey Kelleher tallied her first collegiate goal 24 seconds later. As the clock ticked neared four minutes, Britt secured her second goal of the contest for the eventual game-winner. Temple's second of the afternoon capped off the victory for the Tigers.
