Women's Water Polo Takes Down Villanova, Cal Lutheran

PRINCETON – The Princeton women's water polo team dropped Villanova, 16-5 and Cal Lutheran, 16-6 on day two of the Princeton Invitational to improve to 3-0 in 2016. The Tigers will battle Iona tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. to wrap up the weekend.

Fresh off scoring her first career goal yesterday, freshman Lindsey Kelleher led the team with three tallies. Four other Tigers nabbed two goals each in junior Morgan Hallock, sophomores Chelsea Johnson, Emily Smith, Haley Wan. Goalie Helena van Brande secured nine saves in the win.
Wan and Britt got the scoring started as the Tigers took a 2-0 lead after the first quarter. The home team continued to extend its lead as it led 6-0 at halftime. The Tigers put the game away with six more tallies in the third frame to take a 12-3 lead. Princeton outscored Villanova, 3-2 in the final quarter to take the contest, 16-5.

Four Tigers scored in the first quarter as the home team took a three-goal lead (4-1) into the second frame. The offense continued to push forward with the Tigers scoring six more times. Leading 10-4 after two quarters, Princeton shut out Cal Lutheran in the third frame, adding five more to its total, to take an 11-goal advantage (15-4) into the final stanza. Six different Tigers scored at least two goals while van Brande made eight saves in the win.
