UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (2/6/16) - Three Tigers won their events on Day 2 of the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup as the Princeton women's track & field team finished third with 110 points.
Meanwhile, senior Cecilia Barowski ran 2:06.59 in the elite level 800 race at The Armory Invitational in the Bronx. Barowski finished in sixth place, with Greta Feldman '13 seventh at 2:07.39.
A total of 19 points came in the 600. Sophomore Ashley Forte won the event at 1:32.78, the only runner out of 20 that finished under 1:33. It was a PR for Forte, who has run the 600 twice this year and out paced herself in each race improving from a 1:34.79 before the season. Freshman Anna Jurew was fourth at 1:33.24, senior Meghan McMullin was sixth at 1:34.69 and sophomore Mattie Baron was eighth at 1:34.90.
Junior Katie Hanss won the 800 at 2:11.52 in her first time competing in the event this season. Freshman Jackie Berardo backed up those 10 points with an additional four with a fifth-place time of 2:13.63.
Sophomore Melinda Renuart won the 3,000 with a PR of 9:37.62. She shaved 15.18 seconds off her previous best to win the race. Junior Ally Markovich was third at 9:42.01, though her finish did not contribute to the team scoring freshman Allie Klimkiewicz' fourth-place time of 9:56.97 added an adiditonal six points.
Princeton grabbed 14 points in the triple jump thanks to a 2-3 effort by the Tigers. Freshman Kerri Davidson was the runner-up with a jump of 12.22 (40-1.25), while junior Alexandra Lanzafame was third with her best jump being 11.59 (38-00.25).
The Tigers went 4-5-6 in the women's mile with junior Jessica Ackerman leading the pack at 4:56.97. Classmate Zoe Sims followed at 4:57.12 and then senior Birdie Hutton with a PR of 4:58.18.
Sophomore Melissa Reed was third in the 5,000 as she put up a time of 17:26.19. It marked a PR by nearly four seconds, and marked the first time she has run the event this year.
The 4x400 relay of junior Elisa Steele, Baron, Forte and McMullin was second to the host school at 3:50.44.
