Chad Powers Named Ivy League Co-Pitcher of the Week
March 22, 2016 | Baseball
PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Chad Powers was selected as the Ivy League Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced today. It's Powers' first career weekly Ivy League award. He's the first Tiger to be named Player of the Week since Danny Hoy last season (Mar. 10).
The junior starting pitcher threw six innings, scattered nine hits and allowed just three earned runs as the Tigers defeated Richmond, 5-3 to clinch the Spider Invitational Championship the previous Monday. On Sunday, Powers recorded his second career complete game shutout as Princeton took three of four over Georgetown. Powers allowed seven hits and struck out one hitter over nine innings. 18 of his 27 outs were ground balls and the Tigers turned four double plays.
In three starts this season, Powers boasts a 2-1 record with 3.32 ERA in 19 innings of work. The pitcher has recorded 32 ground ball outs this year. The Tigers are 5-7 on the year with their three-game winning streak being the longest since ending the 2014 season (Apr. 27-29, 2014).
