PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton baseball team will take on the No. 17 nationally ranked University of Louisiana-Lafayette in the NCAA tournament this Friday.
The Tigers travel to M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field and will battle the Ragin' Cajuns at 8 p.m. on ESPN3. The Cajuns are hosting the double-elimination regional as No. 2 seeded Sam Houston State and No. 3 seeded Arizona will be the other matchup.
Princeton is making its 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The last time that the baseball team made the tournament was the 2011 Texas Regional.
The Tigers have won three games in the NCAA Tournament. Princeton dropped Rider in 1965, took down The Citadel in 2001 and then defeated No. 8 Virginia in 2004. Since the regional format began in 1975, the Tigers have never advanced to the Super Regionals weekend.
Princeton has been to one College World Series in 1951, losing to Southern California and Tennessee.
With hosting duties on tap, the Ragin' Cajuns currently stand at 41-19 on the season and recently became the first program in Sun Belt Conference history to win three straight conference tournaments. UL-Lafayette has won 10 straight games and is looking to advance to its third consecutive Super Regional.
The Sam Houston State Bearkats are 41-20 overall and took home the Southland Conference's automatic bid. The Bearkats have made the NCAA Tournament in four of the past five seasons.
This is Arizona's first time in the NCAA appearance since winning the 2012 National Championship. The Wildcats are 38-20 in 2016 and finished with a RPI of 21. Arizona and Princeton have faced off one time with the Wildcats pulling out the victory in 1992.
