Powers Honored as Ivy League Pitcher of the Week
May 04, 2016 | Baseball
PRINCETON – Junior Chad Powers of the Princeton baseball team was selected as the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.
The junior went eight strong innings vs. Cornell last Friday, giving up just two hits to register his fifth win of the season. Powers retired the first 19 hitters he faced before a single by Dale Wickham ended his perfect game with one out in the seventh inning. After losing his shutout bid in the seventh, the starter wrapped up his performance with a 1-2-3 frame in the eighth.
Powers is having an outstanding 2016 season. He leads the Ivy League in innings pitched (62 2/3) and ERA (2.01). He is also tied for second in the conference in shutouts (one) and wins (five). Over his last five starts, Powers has allowed just two earned runs in 38 innings (0.47 ERA). If he were to finish with the lowest ERA in the Ivy League, he'd become just the second Princeton player to achieve the accolade since 2003.
The Tigers will play the winner of the Rolfe Division in the Ivy League Championship Series next Saturday (May 14). First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
