Princeton Practices In Advance Of NCAA Opener Against Louisiana-Lafayette
June 02, 2016 | Baseball
The Princeton baseball team was the last of four teams Thursday afternoon to have its practice on Tigue Moore Stadium on the campus of the Louisiana-Lafayette.
The regional is set to begin Friday at 1 Central time, when second-seeded Arizona takes on Sam Houston State, followed at 7 (that's 8 in Princeton) with the Tigers and the host Ragin' Cajuns. The games can be seen live on ESPN3.
The talk the day before the start of the tournament was of the baseball to be played - and also of the weather. The forecast for the next four days includes varying chances of thunderstorms, which could back things up, mess with pitching staffs and generally create havoc.
Princeton's Game 1 starter will be junior Chad Powers, who is 6-3 with a 2.07 ERA. He'll be opposed by freshman righty Nick Lee, who is 7-1 with a 3.18 ERA. Lee has actually been UL-Lafayette's No. 2 pitcher much of the season.
The key man for the Ragin' Cajuns' staff is closer Dylan Moore, with six wins, 13 saves and an ERA under 1.00.Cameron Mingo will pitch Game 2 for Princeton.
Princeton is in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2011, when the Tigers lost 5-3 to Texas and 3-1 to Texas State. UL-Lafayette has reached the Super Regional each of the last two years.
