LAFAYETTE, La. - For a second straight start, the Princeton baseball team will look to senior pitcher Cameron Mingo to keep its season alive. The Tigers take on the Sam Houston State Bearkats today at 2 p.m. in the loser's bracket of the Lafayette Regional.
Mingo gave up a run three batters into his last start vs. Yale in game three of the Ivy League Championship (May 15). Over the next nine innings, Mingo scattered six hits, keeping the Bulldogs at one run.
You know what happened in the bottom of ninth. Junior Danny Baer ran into the waiting arms of senior Andrew Christie to clinch the Ivy League title.
The Sam Houston State Bearkats are 41-21 overall after falling to No. 2 seeded Arizona, 7-3 last night. That game was delayed over five hours because of rain. The Bearkats got to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Southland Conference's automatic bid.
*The Bearkats' offense has been a staple of their succes as it ranks inside the top 100 nationally in hits (600, 32nd), triples (19, 38th), stolen bases (78, 42nd), doubles, (109, 59th), runs (366, 60th), batting average (.291, 63rd), and scoring (6.0, 91st). Sam Houston State's pitching staff boasts national ranks among top 50 in WHIP (1.29, 39th), hits allowed per nine innings (8.34, 44th) and shutouts (5, 41st).
Stats as of Friday, June 3.
