2016 Schedule
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton men's water polo team has revealed its 2016 schedule, head coach Luis Nicolao announced today.
"We're very excited for the 2016 season to begin," said Nicolao. "With the variety of tournaments and stellar competition, our team should be more than prepared for the Northeast Water Polo Conference tournament at the end of the year."
Earlier this year, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) broke off into two separate conferences. Princeton will be part of the Northeast Water Polo Conference with the CWPA still serving as the governing body. For more information on the conference split, read the CWPA's release here.
The 2016 campaign gets underway at the Navy Open during the first weekend of September (Sept. 3-4). The Tigers start vs. Fordham along with contests vs. Penn State Behrend and McKendree (Sept. 3) before a battle vs. Salem International on Sept. 4.
Nicolao's squad will host the annual Princeton Invitational which features four of the top ten teams from the final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) varsity poll last season including the reigning national champion, UCLA. The Tigers and UCLA face off on Sept. 11 at 12:00 p.m. in a match that will be shown on ESPNU.
After a weekend off, Princeton heads west to participate in the Pacific Coast tournament, hosted by California-Berkeley (Sept. 23-25). The Tigers then spend the next few weeks at home with matchups vs. St. Francis (Sept. 28), Iona (Sept. 30), Brown (Oct. 1), Harvard and MIT (Oct. 2).
Following two more home contests vs. George Washington (Oct. 9) and Navy (Oct. 9), Princeton takes part in the Crimson Invitational (Oct. 15-16). The final weekend in October will have Princeton at Iona and St. Francis (Oct. 29).
The regular season wraps up in the first weekend of November with a doubleheader at MIT and at Harvard (Nov. 5) before finishing at Brown (Nov. 6). Princeton will host the Northeast Water Polo Conference tournament at DeNunzio Pool (Nov. 18-20).
