Lussi Earns Second Consecutive Ivy Player of the Week Honor
September 12, 2016 | Women's Soccer
For the second straight week, Princeton senior Tyler Lussi has earned the honor of being named Ivy League Player of the Week, and this time she earned a national honor as well.
Also for the second straight week, Lussi broke a Princeton record, this time climbing atop the program's all-time points list, now with 115 after two goals in Friday night's 3-0 win over Temple to put her past Esmeralda Negron '05 (112) and two assists in Sunday's game at Monmouth.
Top Drawer Soccer named Lussi as one of 11 on its Team of the Week, recognition she earned three times last season and once as a sophomore.
Lussi's 50 career goals are tied for the fourth-most in Ivy history, and Lussi's next goal will make her the Ivy's highest-scoring player since 1988. She's behind only Kelly Landry (68, Harvard, 1981-84), Sue St. Louis (65, Harvard, 1977-80) and Theresa Hirschauer (62, Brown, 1985-88) and even with Katy Cross (50, Penn, 2001-04).
Lussi's 115 career points have her in fifth place in Ivy history, behind Landry (160), St. Louis (148), Hirschauer (131) and Cross (125).
With her second Ivy Player of the Week honor of the season, Lussi expands her Ivy record for such honors in a career, now with nine. A Princeton player has earned the honor in all three weeks this season, with sophomore Mimi Asom recognized after the season's first weekend.Â
Lussi has seven goals and 17 points this season to lead the Ivy in both categories through the weekend.
Off to their best start since 2002 at 6-0, the Tigers will head west to take on West Virginia Friday and Duquesne Sunday in the final pre-Ivy weekend. West Virginia entered the past weekend ranked fourth in the nation and, like Princeton, is riding a six-match winning streak.
