The Princeton Chapter of Uplifting Athletes will try to score and tackle Saturday in the battle against aplastic anemia.
Princeton Chapter Of Uplifting Athletes Hopes To Score In The Battle vs. Rare Diseases Saturday
September 14, 2016 | Football
Jordan Culbreath crossed the goal line on the final play to secure the first win for head coach Bob Surace at his alma mater.
Surace was happy for himself, but thrilled for Culbreath. After all, the former 1000-yard rusher for Princeton had returned from a battle with aplastic anemia to get back on the field and play the sport he loved.
Princeton and Culbreath continue to win, although these battles are for a much greater cause. Culbreath inspired Princeton to create its own chapter of Uplifting Athletes — a nonprofit organization that inspires the rare disease community with hope through the power of sport — in the ongoing fight against aplastic anemia. The 2016 chapter will hold its annual fall pledge drive as part of its season opener this Saturday, a 5 pm showdown against Lafayette during Community & Staff Day. Anybody who wishes to join Princeton in the battle will be able to donate for every touchdown or tackle for loss by the Tigers.
"I am continuously inspired and impressed by our players' work with Uplifting Athletes," said Surace, the Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '25 Head Coach of Football. "Our guys understand the difference they can make against rare diseases like aplastic anemia, and they take great pride in the work they do throughout the year. Seeing Jordan get a chance to return to the field was such a thrill for me, and I'd love nothing more than for Princeton Football to help defeat this disease completely."
