PRINCETON, N.J. (9/30/16) - The Ivy League men's soccer season begins on Saturday, as the Princeton men's soccer team begins its quest for its ninth league title when it hosts Dartmouth at 4 p.m.
The Tigers hold a 39-22-7 edge in the all-time series with the Big Green since the teams first met back in 1922. Dartmouth won last year's meeting 1-0 with a goal in the 10th minute that would stand to determine the game. The Big Green played down a man after a red card in the 25th but the Tigers couldn't find the elusive equalizer.
Princeton suffered its first loss since Sept. 8 this past Wednesday when it fell 1-0 to Villanova in overtime on a penalty kick. It snapped a four-game win streak the Tigers had been riding as they enter the Ivy schedule with a 4-3 overall record. Senior Greg Seifert and freshman Benjamin Martin sit atop the scoring column with seven points apiece as each has scored three times and has added one assist. Senior defender Mark Romanowski and junior midfielder Daniel Bowkett have a team-best three assists each. Senior midfielder Vikram Pothuri, junior midfielder Harry Heffernan and sophomore defender Henry Martin have all scored once and added one assist each. Senior Josh Haberman has a 1.13 goals against average and a .758 save percentage, having played every minute in goal for the Tigers. He has stopped 25 of 34 shots.
Dartmouth is 1-2-4 overall, its lone win being a 2-1 victory over Seattle on Sept. 11. The Big Green opened the season with a tie against No. 17 ranked Kentucky and have played four teams that were receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll, including Seattle. All three decision have been one-goal decisions, and all four ties have been 1-1 games. Dartmouth most recently played to a 1-1 draw tih Vermont last Saturday. Four players have one goal and one assist, including: Sophomore Noah Paravicini, junior Wyatt Omsberg, junior Matt Danilack and junior Matt Greer. Greer has taken the most shots on the team, nearly a quarter. Senior James Hickok has started in six of seven games in goal.
