Five Notes for Brown/Yale (Story)
Princeton's Defense: Brown's Justin Gaziano had an Ivy League season-high 33 points as the Bears came out with a victory on Friday. The freshman went 13-of-22 (59 percent) from the field and sank six free throws. While Brown had success on offense, Princeton did block 10 shots in the game including seven from Bella Alarie, which broke a freshman single game record. On Saturday, Princeton held Yale to one basket over the final 6:09 of game time. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers shot 77.8 percent, outscoring the Bulldogs, 25-6, along with pulling down nine more rebounds.
Â
Brown's Well-Rounded Scoring: The Bears showed why they have the top scoring offense in the Ivy League, reaching the 90-point mark for the second straight game. It was also the eighth time Brown scored at least 80 points. Aside from Gaziano's 33 points, Shayna Mehta (17), Abby O'Keefe (12), Taylor Will (11) and Erika Steeves (11) also scored double-digits. Brown shot 48.7 percent (38-of-78) from the floor in the win over Princeton.
Â
Brown's Three-Point Field Goal Percentage: One of the best teams nationally from beyond the arc (36.4 percent coming into the weekend), Brown had six players make a three-pointer in the Ivy matchup on Friday. Abby O'Keefe and Kathleen Ryan each made two three-pointers while the Bears finished with eight in the game on 19 attempts (42.1 percent).
Â
Yale's Three-Pointers Made: The Bulldogs' top scorers on Saturday, Tamara Simpson (22 points) and Lena Munzer (13 points), went a combined 6-of-9 from deep, however the rest of their team was just 2-of-10. Yale did not make a three-pointer in the second half as Princeton rallied with a sparkling fourth quarter to earn its first Ivy League victory.
Not feeling Charitable?: The trend of the Bulldogs' inability to get to the free throw line continued as they took nine on Saturday, making six. Jen Berkowitz was 5-of-6 while the rest of the team was 1-of-3. On the other side, Princeton went 13-of-18 including a perfect 7-of-7 in the final stanza.
