Midwest Trip, Big Ten Foes to Come for Men's Tennis Team
January 30, 2017 | Men's Tennis
The dual-match season will begin Thursday and continue Saturday for the Princeton men's tennis team with a trip to the Midwest to face a pair of Big Ten opponents.
No. 18 Michigan (2-1) is up first for the Tigers in a 6 p.m. match Thursday (live stats/video), and the Wolverines have a ranked singles player in No. 50 Kevin Wong and a ranked doubles team in No. 6 Wong and Jathan Malik. While unranked, Indiana enters Saturday's 3 p.m. match at 5-0 on the season.
Princeton has an ITA-ranked singles player as well in No. 109 Alex Day and a ranked doubles team with No. 16 Day and Luke Gamble.
The Tigers have faced both teams in recent seasons, with Michigan defeating the Tigers in 2013 in Ann Arbor and last year at the Big Ten-Ivy Challenge in New York. Princeton has defeated Indiana in each of the last two seasons, first at the USD Invitational in San Diego in 2015 and then last season in Jadwin Gym.
Princeton returns its complete lineup from both the Michigan and Indiana matches last season, with Tom Colautti, Day, Gamble, Kial Kaiser, Jimmy Wasserman, Diego Vives and Josh Yablon playing in both.
Following the trip, Princeton will return home to host a three-match homestand against Rice, Wisconsin and VCU beginning Friday, Feb. 10.
