It was a sight to be seen. It has been nearly two years since five-time All-America Megan Curham last wore a Princeton bib in a collegiate cross country meet. Today there she was on the starting line with the orange blazoned at the Penn State National Open for the first time since the 2016 NCAA Championships.
She began the race in the front pack, in sixth place at the 2m split, and didn't waiver out of that top 10 to finish at 20:42 in 10th place. Junior Gabi Forrest finished 15th overall and was the second Tiger across the line in 20:44. She closed the gap well after hitting 2m in 26th place. Freshman Melia Chittenden and Allie Klimkiewicz came in 27th and 30th with times of 21:08 and 21:12, respectively. The final scorer was sophomore Rachel Granovsky at 21:23, picking up 43rd. Junior Madison Offstein wasn't far back at 21:25. Junior Brighie Leach and freshman Sophie Cantine were about one minute off their usual paces at 21:36 and 21:37.
Princeton finished fourth overall in a race of 17 teams with a score of 125, just three points back from Dartmouth. Penn State, ranked 10th nationally, won the meet on its home course with 44 points followed by No. 15-ranked Villanova. The Tigers came out ahead of Cornell, as well as in front of No. 26 Oklahoma State and No. 29 ranked West Virginia - a team the Tigers will look to beat again next month at the NCAA Regional.
The Tigers take aim at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on Friday, Oct. 27 at Van Cortlandt Park.
Tomorrow Princeton hosts the Princeton Invitational at West Windsor Fields. The women's 6k will begin at 10:30 a.m.
