Schrage Tops ITA-Ranked Opponent to Extend Stay in California

Princeton rookie Stephanie Schrage is extending her fall break trip to California after defeating East Carolina's 95th-ranked Celia Ruiz in a round-of-32 consolation match at the ITA Fall Nationals in Palm Desert, Calif., Thursday.

With Schrage's 6-4, 6-2 win over Ruiz in the books, the Tiger freshman will face Michigan's 115th-ranked Chiara Lommer in the consolation round of 16 at 11:15 a.m. PT/2:15 p.m. ET Friday with the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET for the winner, both at the JW Marriott in Palm Desert.

Friday's match will give Schrage the opportunity for a fourth win over a ranked opponent this fall, with the win over Ruiz joining those over LSU's 64th-ranked Ryann Foster at the ITA's grass court event in September and Syracuse's 59th-ranked Miranda Ramirez in the ITA Northeast Regional semifinal last month.
