EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is 1-1-1 on the season after opening the season with a 4-2 victory over Holy Cross. The Tigers earned a point in their first league game, a scoreless tie with Colgate. Last year it took four games to get a point in the league, and five games the year before that. The Tigers battled No. 18 Cornell to a 5-4 game, taking a 4-2 lead before the Big Red came back with three straight goals. Junior Max Véronneau has four points in three games, scoring twice and assisting on two. Senior Eric Robinson and freshmen defender Reid Yochim have three points each. Either other skaters have one or two points. Freshman Ryan Ferland has taken the starting role in net. He has a .929 save percentage and a 2.27 goals against average with one shutout and averages more than 30 saves per game.
SCOUTING THE DUTCHMEN
After beginning the season winless in five, the Dutchmen have turned things around going 5-1 for a 5-6 overall record. Union is currently first in the league standings, with six points in four games and a 3-1 record. The squad swept travel partner Rensselaer to start the league schedule and then split with St. Lawrence and Clarkson on the road, falling 3-2 to the Golden Knights after a 3-1 win over St. Lawrence. Junior Brett Supinski and senior Ryan Scarfo are in double digits in scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore Anthony Rinaldi has a better goals per game than either of them with six tallies and three assists in nine games. Union has been using two netminders to find a replacement for last season's starter Alex Sakellaropoulos. It looks as though freshman Darion Hanson solidified the starting role as he is 5-1, with a .920 save percentage and a 1.84. Junior Jake Kupsky (SJS) started with an 0-5 record, an .891 save percentage and a 3.27 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/UNION SERIES
Princeton still has a sour taste in its mouth after ending its season in the ECAC Quarterfinals at Union last spring with the final game being decided on a penalty shot in overtime. Down 11 games in the series 33-22-7, Princeton is seeking its first win over Union since the 2009 playoffs.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
Head coach Dave Smith is in his first year behind the bench for RPI after having spent 12 seasons at Canisius. The squad is 1-4-3 on the season, with an 8-3 win over RIT. In the ECAC, the Engineers are 0-3-1 with a tie at St. Lawrence, a loss at Clarkson and dropping a pair to travel partner Union at the end of October. Junior Evan Tironese and sophomore Jacob Hayhurst lead the team's offense with seven points apiece. Three draft picks follow with five points: Will Reilly (PIT), Mike Prapavessis (DAL) and Todd Burgess (OTT). Junior Chase Perry (DET) is 0-4-2 in goal and has a .917 save percentage and a 2.82 GAA. Backup freshman Linden Marshall is 1-0-1 with a .902 save percentage and a 3.71 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/RPI SERIES
Princeton is looking for its first win at Houston Field House since the 2011-12 season, which was the final win of five straight in Troy for the Tigers. Since then Princeton is 0-5-1 with the last two meetings being decided by just one goal. Last year Princeton took a 6-5 overtime win in December at Hobey Baker Rink before a 4-3 loss in February on the road.
