PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers take on the UMBC Retrievers to Jadwin Gym on Saturday (Dec. 30). The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on the Ivy League Network.
Before we take a look at the UMBC Retrievers, let's review the Gator Holiday Classic one last time …
Leslie Robinson: The senior captain averaged 11.0 points on 52.9 percent shooting, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in the team's two victories at the Gator Holiday Classic. Robinson was named to the All-Tournament team with Bella Alarie, who was honored as the MVP. Over the last eight games, Robinson is averaging 11.6 points on 44.0 percent shooting, 7.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. In the four games to start the season, the forward posted a stat line of 7.8 points on 35.3 percent shooting along with 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 0.75 steals per game. After back-to-back two-point outings, the senior captain has at least 10 points in six of her last eight contests.
Sydney Jordan: The junior averaged 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds in Princeton's victories over St. Joe's and Chattanooga. She registered two blocks in the Tigers' win over Chattanooga last Wednesday and grabbed four rebounds vs. St. Joe's the day before.
St. Joe's Three-Point Shooting: The Hawks came into the game as one of the best teams in the country in shooting beyond the arc, but were just 4-of-14 from deep against Princeton. St. Joe's was 1-of-7 in the first half, but made three in second half, cutting its deficit to two.
Chattanooga's Three-Point Shooting: Another top team in the nation in three-pointing shooting, the Mocs were held without a trey in the first half. Chattanooga made four in the second half, getting within seven with five minutes remaining, before Princeton allowed just one basket the rest of the way.
Some notes for UMBC …
UMBC Scoring Offense: It has been a struggle offensively for the Retrievers as they sit 342nd in the country in scoring (51.4). They have scored over 60 points just two times and have scored under 50 points, six times. They registered 58 points in last year's loss to Princeton.
UMBC Field Goal Percentage: UMBC is 337th nationally in field goal percentage at 33.6 percent. The Retrievers have not made more than 40 percent in a game this season, their highest being 37.5 percent vs. LIU Brooklyn and Denver.
Rebounding: UMBC is 332nd in Division I in rebounding margin (-9.8). Princeton has won the rebounding margin in seven of its 12 games this year, including four of the last five. The Tigers are 94th in the country in rebounding margin (+4.7). Princeton earned a 41-27 rebounding advantage last year in a 69-58 decision over UMBC.
