EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is unbeaten in its last four games, recovering from a four-game losing skid between December and January. Last weekend, the Tigers topped Yale 4-2 and battle back from a three-goal deficit at Brown for a 3-3 tie. Princeton is 9-11-3 overall and with a 4-9-3 record is ninth in the ECAC, one point out of eighth place, which would be home ice in the first round of the ECAC playoffs. Sophomore Max Véronneau leads the offense with 27 points on eight goals and team-high 19 assists. Linemate Ryan Kuffner has the most goals on the team with 13, while chipping in 11 assists for 24 points. Junior David Hallisey, who had a five-point game last weekend, has 23 points. Jackson Cressey leads the rookies in scoring with 22 points, while sophomore Josh Teves has the most points from the blue line with 15. This week's ECAC Goalie of the Week Colton Phinney has played in goal in all but one game. He has a .900 save percentage and a 3.44 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
With a 15-8-6 overall record St. Lawrence is ranked No. 18 in this week's USCHO poll and receiving votes in the USA Today poll. The Saints are in a first-place tie in the league standings, along with Union, with an 11-3-3 mark - most recently dropping a 3-1 game at Clarkson. Defender Gavin Bayreuther leads the team in points thanks to 18 assists and seven goals. Junior Mike Marnell has 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points and junior Joe Sullivan is two points back with nine goals and 11 assists. Eight other skaters are in double digits in scoring as the offense scores 2.97 goals per game (26th), while having the eighth-best scoring defense at 2.21. The penalty kill is a sweet spot for the Saints killing off 87.5 percent (5th), while the power-play has struggled at 13.3 percent (53rd). Junior Kyle Hayton has played in all but two games and has a .934 save percentage and a 2.08 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/ST. LAWRENCE SERIES
The Tigers are looking to snap a 13-game losing skid in the St. Lawrence series. The Saints are 11-0-2 as of late with Princeton's last win coming during the 2011 playoffs, a 4-1 win in Game 1. Sophomore Ryan Kuffner has the best points per game against Clarkson with two in three, while Max Becker has two in four games. Colton Phinney has an .891 save percentage and a 4.04 GAA, while Ben Halford has an .891 and a 4.92 in his two appearances versus the Saints.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson is 12-12-4 overall, struggling a bit since the Christmas break. The squad began with a 9-5-3 record and has since gone 3-7-1. Clarkson rebounded from a 2-1 loss to RPI on Jan. 28 with a 3-1 win over travel partner St. Lawrence on Saturday and is now 7-7-2 in the ECAC to sit in sixth place. Clarkson averages 3.07 goals per game (10th) and allows 3.00 (35th). One of the top 10 penalized teams in the country, Clarkson's penalty kill kills off at a rate of 84 percent (23rd), while the power play converts 19 percent of the time (25th). The offense is led by junior Sam Vigneault and his 25 points. He has a team-high 18 assists and seven goals. Senior Jordan Bucher is two points back with 10 goals and 13 assists, while senior Troy Josephs (PIT) matches those 10 goals as well.
