Dartmouth/Harvard Preview
As the Tigers get ready for the next six weeks of Ivy League play, here are five things to watch out for against Dartmouth and Harvard.
Â
Dartmouth From Deep: The Big Green are 63rd nationally in three-point field goal percentage (34.9). Kate Letkewicz is 21st in Division I in shooting from long distance (43.4 percent). Andi Norman is also over 40 percent from the three-point line (40.6). Letkewicz has made at least one three-pointer in 15 straight games. She has been held under 10 points in three of her four career games against Princeton.
Â
Harvard's Strong Defensive Unit: One of the big factors in the Crimson's 16-game winning streak is their defense which ranks in top 40th in the country. Holding opponents under 37 percent (36.2) from the field, Harvard has three wins over teams with RPIs under 100. However, four of Harvard's last five opponents have shot at least 39 percent including Ivy League foes Dartmouth and Columbia.
Â
Harvard's Underclassmen: Freshman Katie Benzan leads the Crimson in scoring (12.8) while her 44.7 percent from deep places her 18th in Division I. She has four Ivy League Rookie of the Week accolades and was Player of the Week on Jan. 2. Freshman Jeannie Boehm leads the conference in swats per game (2.65) and is 18th in the country. The Crimson's third and fourth leading scorers, Madeline Raster (10.8) and Sydney Skinner, (10.0) are sophomores.
Â
Princeton's Rebounding: The Tigers are one of the best rebounding teams (44.2) in the nation (10th). Freshman Bella Alarie is sixth in the Ivy League in grabbing rebounds (7.7) while junior Leslie Robinson (7.3) is right behind her in seventh. Vanessa Smith (4.8) and Tia Welejdi (4.1) also average at least four boards per game. Sophomore Sydney Jordan is 10th in the conference in offensive caroms (2.5).
Â
Princeton's Three-Point Defense: Princeton is one of the best teams in the nation in defending the three-pointer (26.9 percent, 13th). The Tigers have held 11 teams under 30 percent from beyond the arc this season including the Ivy League leader, Penn. With two of the best three-point shooters in the country (Letkewicz and Benzan) coming into Jadwin this weekend, it will be vital for Princeton to maintain its defensive principles in order to come out with victories.
