Trip to Xavier, Kentucky Up Next for Women's Tennis Team
February 21, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Cincinnati and Lexington are on the itinerary for the Princeton women's tennis team this weekend, as the Tigers will head to both sides of the Ohio River to begin a long road swing that will end after Ivy League play begins.
Saturday's match at Xavier is set for a 3 p.m. start with a noon start set for Sunday at Kentucky.
The Tigers (5-4) will play their next seven away from campus after four of their first nine were at home in between trips to Texas for three matches and Harvard for the ECAC Championship. Caroline Joyce and Nicole Kalhorn are ranked 60th in the nation in the Feb. 21 ITA rankings. Princeton will play at Maryland on March 5 before heading to California for three matches during spring break ahead of the Ivy League opener April 1 at Penn.
Xavier (3-5) has won back-to-back matches against area opponents Miami (Ohio) and Northern Kentucky after a 1-5 start, and the Musketeers have three more matches after hosting Princeton until Big East play begins March 19 against Marquette.
Kentucky (6-1) will face Princeton as the last of three Ivy League opponents and the last match before opening SEC play against Georgia next weekend. The Wildcats beat Penn 4-0 in Atlanta on Jan. 29 and will host Columbia Friday before welcoming the Tigers Sunday. The Wildcats are ranked 43rd in the nation on the Feb. 21 ITA rankings with Aldila Sutjiadi ranked 13th in singles. Sutjiadi was ranked No. 5 in the nation when paired with Mami Adachi and tied for 37th with Akvile Parazinskaite.
The matches will be Princeton's first against Xavier and fourth all-time against Kentucky. After Princeton and the Wildcats split a pair of matches in the 1980s, Kentucky came to Jadwin Gym a year ago and won 7-0.
