Princeton Falls To Top-Seeded Harvard, Will Face Trinity For Third Place To Complete Howe Cup
February 25, 2017 | Women's Squash
The fourth-seeded Princeton women's squash team will face third-seeded Trinity Sunday at 3 pm for third place to cap the CSA Howe Cup national team championships, which are being held at the Jadwin Squash Courts this weekend. Despite a spirited effort and some exciting results in the opening shift, Princeton could not upset top-seeded Harvard Saturday afternoon.
While Harvard was a strong favorite to return to the national championship match, the Tigers put an early jolt in Jadwin during their semifinal match. Sophomore Kate Feeley played one of the best matches of her career at the No. 9 spot to defeat Eleanore Evans 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 12-10 and gave Princeton an early win over the Crimson. Harvard grabbed a win at the No. 3 spot, but Tiger sophomore Isabel Hirshberg was in the middle of a tough four-game match against Katie Tutrone at the No. 6 spot. Hirshberg, who thrilled Jadwin Friday with a 3-2 win in Princeton's quarterfinal victory over Yale, took the opening game 13-11, but Tutrone followed with three narrow victories to open a 2-1 Crimson lead.
Tiger freshman Morgan Steelman picked up an early game at the No. 8 spot, but Harvard was able to take control of the match the rest of the way and advanced with an 8-1 win. You can find all the individual match results here.
Princeton will return to the court Sunday at 3 to face Trinity for third place in the Howe Cup; the two teams met last weekend in Trinity, with the Bantams claiming an 8-1 home win. Trinity fell 5-4 in its semifinal match against second-seeded Penn.
