Despite Feeley Sweep, Princeton Finishes Fourth In Howe Cup
February 26, 2017 | Women's Squash
Sophomore Kate Feeley punctuated a perfect weekend at the CSA Howe Cup Championships with a thrilling five-game win Sunday, but the Princeton women's squash team held its seed and finished fourth in the national team championship competition. Trinity, which entered as the third seed, claimed a third-place finish with a 7-2 win over the Tigers to wrap up the weekend competition.
Feeley took the court first and made lasting impression in a marathon showdown against Karolina Holinkova. The two went extra points in two of the five games, including a memorable finale that went deep into overtime. Feeley, coming off wins over both Yale and Harvard, ultimately took the match 10-12,11-9,11-6,6-11,16-14.
Trinity led 2-1 after the first shift, but Princeton made a move in the second. Freshman Morgan Steelman dropped the opening game at the No. 8 spot, but she bounced back with wins of 11-8, 11-5, 11-8 to claim Princeton's second win of the match. Senior co-captain Maria Elena Ubina played the final home match of her brilliant career and pushed Anna Kimberley into a fifth game with an 11-6 win in the fourth, but the Trinity veteran had enough answers in the finale to claim the win, which opened a 4-2 lead for the Bantams.
Juniors Olivia Fiechter and Kira Keating both pushed their opponents in the final shift, but Trinity took each match to win 7-2. You can see all the individual results here.
Harvard repeated as the national team champion with a 7-2 win over Penn.
The final weekend of the collegiate squash season will be the CSA individual championships, which will be held next weekend at Dartmouth.
