Indiana Defeats Men's Tennis, 5-2
February 04, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Tom Colautti and Kial Kaiser had singles wins for the Princeton men's tennis team Saturday afternoon at Indiana, but the Hoosiers got the team victory, 5-2, in the Tigers' second contest of the dual-match season.
Indiana (6-0) took the doubles point and the first two singles matches to finish to build a 3-0 lead before Kaiser and Colautti won their matches to bring Princeton within 3-2. Indiana found the clinching point with a win at third and added a win at sixth to make the 5-2 margin.
"It was a tough battle to lose today, but I give Indiana credit for playing well on its home courts," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Quite simply, we didn't capitalize on the chances we had and found ourselves trailing early in the singles. We rallied well and made a push to have a chance to win, but it's a lot to ask trying to win four three-set matches. It was disappointing not getting the doubles point after having an 4-2 edge at number one, though it was a high level of play in that court. It's early in the season and we need these reps. We saw many positives from this weekend while we also saw several things to work on. This wasn't how we wanted to start the season, but we have a tough schedule for a reason. We have a great opportunity next weekend with some strong teams visiting, so we're excited to get back to work and make the necessary adjustments."
Princeton (0-2) will have a three-match homestand next weekend, facing Rice Friday at 5 p.m. and Wisconsin and VCU in a Sunday doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Jadwin Gym. Admission to the matches is free.
Order of finish: Doubles: 2, 3, 1; Singles: 1, 2, 5, 4, 3, 6
