Alarie Named Ivy League Co-Player and Rookie of the Week
February 06, 2017 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – For the third time this season, freshman Bella Alarie was selected as the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week. Alarie also nabbed Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season.
Â
In Princeton's two victories over the weekend, Alarie averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Penn's Michelle Nwokedi was also named Co-Player of the Week.
Â
The freshman was all over the court on Friday in a Tigers' 30-point victory over Dartmouth. She was 5-of-10 from the floor, tallying 14 points, adding five rebounds and three blocks.
Â
Alarie was even better on Saturday as Princeton rallied for an overtime victory over Harvard. The Bethesda, Md., native played every minute, dropped in 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and three blocks.
Â
It's her fourth consecutive game with at least 10+ points and 5+ rebounds. The three-time Player of the Week award winner has 15 blocks in her last five games and 31 this season, good for third on the freshman single-season list. During the second half of the Harvard game, she was a vital cog defensively in allowing the Crimson (a top 20 nationally in three-point shooting) to shoot 1-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Â
Head coach Courtney Banghart's squad will travel on the road for three of the next four weekends beginning with an excursion to Cornell (Feb. 10) and Columbia (Feb. 11). The game vs. Cornell will begin at 7:00 p.m.
