Pepperdine Defeats Men's Tennis Team in Spring Trip Opener
March 22, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Pepperdine claimed the doubles point and the first three singles matches to finish on the way to a 6-1 win over the Princeton men's tennis team Wednesday afternoon in Malibu, Calif., as the Tigers opened their spring trip.
"I felt the match started out promising in doubles," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We had a match point we didn't convert and not getting the doubles played a big factor in the momentum for both teams. We also missed some critical points at number four in the first-set tiebreaker as well as being a bit unlucky with two match points at number one. Nonetheless, Pepperdine played well throughout its lineup and didn't allow us much room for error today. We have to be better tomorrow and display an improved collective effort in singles."
Alex Day and Luke Gamble, the 26th-ranked doubles pair in the nation, won their match on court one, but the Tigers dropped the matches on courts two and three to cede the first point. The Tigers got a win from Alex Day in straight sets on court two.
Princeton will head down the coast to face the University of San Diego in an 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET match Thursday. Live stats can be found here and the team will be providing updates through its Twitter feed @PtonMensTennis.
