San Diego Defeats Men's Tennis Team
March 23, 2017 | Men's Tennis
San Diego took the doubles point and the first three singles matches to be decided to clinch a 4-0 win over the Princeton men's tennis team Thursday afternoon in California.
Princeton got a 6-0 first-set win from Jimmy Wasserman at sixth, but his match went unfinished once the Toreros reached the fourth point of the afternoon. It was the second of three matches for the Tigers on their spring trip to the Golden State, with the third set for Sunday at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT at UC Santa Barbara.
"Though our effort was good today, we simply didn't execute," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We're disappointed with how the last two days have turned out, but the truth is we simply need to be better in some areas. We made some progress from yesterday on a couple of courts in terms of being mentally consistent. There is still a lot of room for improvement and we need everyone playing and competing their best from start to finish. Additionally, we need to find the right answers in doubles to avoid digging out from a 1-0 deficit. We'll get two days of practice and prepare for a tough Santa Barbara squad on Sunday in the last match of this trip."
The team will be providing updates of the match against the Gauchos through its Twitter feed @PtonMensTennis.
Order of finish: Doubles: 2, 1; Singles: 4, 2, 5
