#8 Open Women Begin April Road Show At Overpeck vs. Columbia, Clemson
March 30, 2017 | Women's Rowing - Open
LINKS: National Rankings l Directions to Overpeck Lake
HIGHLIGHTS: Princeton defeats Brown for 1987 Trophy
The traveling road show that will be April for the eighth-ranked Princeton open women will begin at Overpeck Park Saturday morning when the Tigers take on both Columbia and Clemson.
While several of Princeton's April road competitions are scheduled to be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network, this one will not. It was originally scheduled for a 10:12 am start (V4B) with the 1V race at 10:48, but the potential for major wind could move the regatta to earlier in the morning (possibly kicking off with the 1V8 race at 7:50 am). Check @TigerWCrew Friday for the potential schedule change.
Regardless of when Princeton races, the Tigers will be looking to build on the strong start from last weekend, when they opened their Ivy seasons with wins over Brown and Michigan State in all three NCAA boats. They know, however, that wins in March don't mean anything in April and May, and that was just one step in the development process this season.
"Brown and Michigan State are some of our toughest competitors," said junior Erica Swartwout, a member of the 2V boat. "However, we went into the weekend with more excitement than anything, simply pumped for the racing season to start. Having an actual race under our belt, I feel very hopeful about the season. This winter we worked hard to establish a strong foundation, and as the weeks progress we will take each race as an opportunity to learn and improve."
This will be an important opportunity for the Tigers to continue building speed, as they will travel to a pair of ranked teams over the following two weeks. Princeton will head to the Charles River April 8 to take on #11 Harvard and Cornell in The Class of 1975 Cup regatta, and then it will go to the Housatonic River for an Eisenberg Cup battle with #5 Yale.
