Despite Marathon Loss, Toth Caps Women's Squash Season With Thrilling Final Weekend
March 05, 2017 | Women's Squash
RECAPS: Day 1 l Day 2
Senior Alexandra Toth has been a four-year starter for the Princeton women's squash team, and she played Sunday like she wanted to keep her career alive as long as possible.
Toth, who won twice Saturday to advance to the finals of the Holleran Cup North draw, faced Cornell's Margaux Lasty in Sunday's final, a rematch of a regular-season showdown that Lasty won in four games. Toth, who played the majority of the 2016-17 season at the No. 3 position, entered the final match with 45 victories over her memorable career, and she fought hard for No. 46. Lasty won a 14-12 marathon opener, but Toth battled back for an 11-9 win in the second game.
Lasty again took a lead with an 11-9 win in the third, but Toth battled to extra points before extending the match with a 13-11 win in the fourth. Lasty, however, found the momentum in the fifth game and finished the match with an 11-4 win.
It ended an impressive weekend for the Princeton women, who had every member of the team win at least one match in their respective draws. On Day 1 alone (see recap above), Princeton went 7-0, with two other Tigers — including Toth — receiving a bye. Members of every class won at least one match during the weekend.
