No. 43 Maryland Holds Off Women's Tennis Team's Rally
March 05, 2017 | Women's Tennis
No. 43 Maryland held off the Princeton women's tennis team 5-2 Sunday afternoon in College Park in the Tigers' final match before the spring-break trip to California.
The Terrapins took the doubles point with the first two matches to finish, but Clare McKee responded with a straight-set win at fourth to pull Princeton even to start singles play. Tiffany Chen battled Maryland's Alexandra Stanova to a second-set tiebreak on court one before Maryland pulled back ahead 2-1, and Nicole Kalhorn held off Maryland's Arnelle Sullivan in a second-set tiebreak to tie it at 2-2.
Maryland's Caroline Williams won a three-setter against Catalina Vives at sixth to put her team up 3-2, and the Terrapins found the clinching point when Ekaterina Tour bounced back from a first-set tiebreak loss to take the last two against Sivan Krems. Maryland's Kate Yemelyanenka finished it off by taking the match on court five in a second-set tiebreak.
The Tigers will be in action again March 20 at Cal State Northridge in the first of three spring-trip matches in California.
