Lightweight Men Head To Schuylkill For Wood-Hammond Showdown vs. Improved Penn, Georgetown

WOOD-HAMMOND CUP HISTORY
There have been years when this week was viewed as the connector between the Platt Cup and the Goldthwait Cup races, when Princeton had a slight break from top-tier opponents in between the Cornell and Harvard/Yale showdowns.
Historically, the Wood-Hammond Cup has been dominated by the Tiger lightweights, who hold a 59-12 advantage in the all-time series with Penn and have won 37 of the last 38 meetings, including each of the last 11.
This weekend's showdown on the Schuylkill does not fall in that category.
Penn comes into Saturday's race on its home course with a 1-3 record this spring, but that isn't a good reflection on how tough the Quakers have been against the top-ranked boats in the country. Take last Saturday, for example; on the same day that Princeton fell to #2 Cornell by 1.9 seconds, Penn went on the road and lost to #1 Yale by only two seconds.
The Quakers' three losses this season have come to the top-three teams in the country, and they have a victory over reigning IRA champion Columbia to balance it.
Princeton, coming off a season-opening loss to Navy (which has now moved to #4 nationally), has been highly impressive. The Tigers won four straight, and then pushed the Big Red in a 2000-meter thriller on the Cayuga.
Racing is slated to begin at 9:30 with the 4V, and it will continue every 20 minutes:
9:30 - 4V
9:50 - 3V
10:10 - 2V
10:30 - 1V (Wood-Hammond Cup)
10:50 - 5V
