SPRING RECAP VIDEOS: Offense l Defense
After breaking down the growth on the offensive side of the ball last week, 2016 Ivy League Football Head Coach of the Year Bob Surace takes a look at the defense in the second edition of the annual Spring Wrap-Up video series.
The reigning Ivy League champion Tigers dominated on the defensive side of the ball last season, leading the league in scoring (16.4), total (317.6), and rushing (80.1) defense during the 2016 season. That unit was led by seniors at nearly every level, including All-Ivy League honorees Dorian Williams, Luke Catarius, Rohan Hylton, James Gales, and Henry Schlossberg.
That leaves a lot of playing time for the defensive staff to fill, though Surace points out that there were a handful of rotation players — Mark Fossati, Tom Johnson, and Jake Strain are just a few examples — who are ready to jump into bigger roles, while a few younger players made a big jump after limited time last fall.
Of course, returning the reigning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year finalist, Kurt Holuba, is a nice foundation to build upon as well.
