Princeton Moves On To CWPA Semifinals With 16-7 Win Over Bucknell

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 9 Princeton Tigers used a common formula, great offensive performances from Lindsey Kelleher and Haley Wan, to take down the Bucknell Bison, 16-7, in the first round of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championships.
Kelleher had a career-high eight points, posting three goals and five assists. The sophomore now has 19 points in her last three games. Wan collected three goals while Ashleigh Johnson stopped 16 shots. Three other players registered multi-goal outings in the victory.
It took Princeton all of 10 seconds to get the scoring started as Wan collected her 70th goal of the season. Five different Tigers scored in the first period as Princeton rolled off a 5-0 lead after eight minutes.
Bucknell finally got on the board 11 minutes into the CWPA matchup, making the score 6-1 at the 5:10 mark of the second stanza. Princeton added on with the next three goals, taking a 9-2 advantage into halftime.
The two squads exchanged goals to open the third frame (11-4) before Princeton ripped off a three-tally spurt to put the game away. Kasey Bersh wrapped up the final 4:08 for the Tigers in goal, making one save.
With the victory, Princeton advances to the CWPA semifinals against the No. 3 seed Hartwick tomorrow at 3 p.m.
